I liken my life to a crazy quilt. You never know what size or color the next block will be, what print or fabric it will be made from or which stitch, ribbon or charm it will be adorned with.

Welcome to my crazy-quilt life. Hopefully my blog is a reflection of that & me!

Enjoy your visit.

Wound Tight

I get a little wound up at times. Things bug me. There are times when everything seems to bug me, or maybe I am just being sensitive and it seems that way. I am currently in one of those phases.
I hear and read such bizarre tales about people these days. I have to wonder what this world is coming to. I have come to the realization that there is no normal and the normal I think of as normal had gone by the wayside. There are more crazy people in this world than normal people, whatever that is.
I have been dealing internally with the 8th commandment of the Bible, "Though shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor." With the Internet now the world is so small. We are able to put ourselves out there to the world like we have never before. We are able to control what the rest of the world sees and doesn't see. We are able to show the world just what we want them to see of ourselves and hide the rest. Is that then bearing false witness? Is it wrong to make yourself look like one thing on the Internet and live quite another? I've really been struggling with this lately and a lot of it comes from Facebook. I see so many preaching one thing, including quoting scripture, and then living quite another, including getting drunk on their butts in the local bars. Is that what they want their friends to think Chritianity is about? No wonder those people chase others away from it.
I have always been a "what you see is what you get" person. I even had a sweatshirt that had that on it when I was in high school! I've always tried to be an honest and sincere person. I just don't get all of the phoniness and it really bugs me. I guess I never will.

  1. I'll take old honest and sincere LaVonne any day. You will always be yourself because you are who you say you are. God will bless you for that. Love you just the way you are!The world would be a much better place if more people were like you.I'm sorry they aren't and understand your frustration.

  2. I've never interpreted that statement that way before. I have always thought of having a false witness against my neighbor as speaking ill of him or passing unflattering gossip perhaps? As one internet source says - It means you should not lie (tell an untruth) in such a way that it will hurt someone else.

I've never connected that statement with someone else living a deceptive lifestyle. But you're right. We can portray ourselves to be any way we wish over the internet. But I think people have always found ways to be deceptive. The 1950's were known for always portraying a perfect home life, immaculate homes, perfect children, wives greeting their husbands in make-up and heels. My grandmother always said not to let people know your business. In other words, everything looks great from the outside. They don't need to know all our struggles. I don't think things really change.

  3. Yes it's true. What one sees on the internet is not necessarily what one gets. I just heard today on the radio that there is a new type of depression in teenagers brought on specifically by Facebook. The kids see all this fun and exciting stuff others are doing and it makes thier lives feel inadequate by comparison and that they are left out of the fun. But they don't see reality, only the surface of what others want them to see.

I heard the following quote recently and it's my new mantra when it comes to comparing my life to anybody else's:
"Don't compare your insides to someone else's outsides."

    Words to live by.

On a much more important note: How is lambing going? I'm waiting for my girls to pop any minute....I'm full of anxiety and worry. And that's the honest truth.

    Love-
    Angie

ps-Happy Belated Birthday, you spring chicken.
